MAGICT DAQ power requirements (final design July 2000)
Each FADC board (8 channels) requires the following
voltages and currents:
- +5 V: 8.03 A.
- -5.2 V: 13.75 A.
- -2 V: 7.65 A.
- +3.3 V: 3.25 A.
This adds up to 137.68 W per 8 channel FADC board.
Each interface board requires the following
voltages and currents:
- +5 V: 0.16 A.
- -5.2 V: 0.13 A.
- -2 V: 1.25 A.
- +3.3 V: 3.25 A.
This makes 14.7 W per interface board.
Each crate consists of 4 FADC boards and 1 interface board.
This makes the following comsumption for each 32 channel crate:
- +5 V: 32.28 A.
- -5.2 V: 55.13 A.
- -2 V: 31.85
- +3.3 V: 17.05 A.
Which makes a total of 568.04 W per crate.
A rack is made up of 5 such crates and a special crate
with 6 interface cards. The racks thus needs:
- +5 V: 162.36 A.
- -5.2 V: 276.43 A.
- -2 V: 166.75
- +3.3 V: 104.75 A.
This adds up to 2928.41 W for one rack. All the power in
one rack will be fed via only 5 connectors
on the back (for +5.0 V, -5.2 V, -2.0 V, +3.3 V, GND).
The whole system consists of 4 such racks and one
special rack with only one crate containing 6 interface cards.
Therefore the requirements for the whole system are:
- +5 V: 650.40 A.
- -5.2 V: 1106.50 A.
- -2 V: 674.50
- +3.3 V: 438.5 A.
Making a total of 11801 W for the 640 channels system.
That means roughly 18.4 W per channel. This does not include the
power requirements of the fans. Roughly, estimating 6 fans per insert
slot and a power consumption of about 20W per fan at 220V, a maximum of
720 W, or ~3.3A per Rack.
